I
was born in Henderson, Texas (East Texas) a long time ago in a galaxy far,
far away. I began writing music at
the
tender age of eight. My Father was the church choir director and was a
fabulous "natural" musician with a
great
ear. I attended Texas Eastern School of Music in Tyler, Texas as a composition/arranging
major. I started
my
radio broadcasting career in Tyler in 1952 which was a long time before
you were even a gleam in your
Father's
eye. My radio career took me to several major cities including Dallas,
Texas and Louisville, Kentucky. I
did
many years of on-the-air work and specialized in the writing, creation
and production of
commercials--mostly
humorous spots. I left radio after around 35 years in the business. (Yes,
I am an OLD fart
even
though I don't feel and act that way! I certainly do not need Viagra!)
I am presently a pawnbroker, of all
things,
and operate Money Tree Pawn Shop in Tyler. I don't know how the hell I
ended up in the pawnshop
business
but it's fascinating and every day is different. I don't own the business--I
am the only employee. I have
been
divorced for many years and live the life of an independent, wierdo musician
with a totally off-the-wall
sense
of humor. My principal instrument is double bass. ("standup" bass) In my
lifetime, I have worked many
thousands
of gigs as a sideman with small jazz groups and in big bands too. In college
I wrote all of the special
music
arrangements for a precision female dance group called The Apache Belles.
What a great looking bunch
of
scantily-clad chicks they were! I could hardly keep my mind on my studies!
I
am a conservative Republican who certainly did not vote for the present
President-pretender. (In college I
inhaled
!) My political leanings are just a little to the left of Atilla the Hun.
