JALBUN LODGE
SPIRITUAL RETREAT

OUR VISION

Jalbun Lodge has grown out of Ned and Deepam's vision of creating a nourishing and supportive environment for emotional healing and spiritual growth.  Dedication to their own journey on the Red Road has blossomed into sharing their understanding and abundance with those who have a desire to step upon that road.

This is an opportunity to explore your inner self, bring clarity to your life's path, and regenerate  your spirit.  The life teachings of the Medicine Wheel are the foundation of the Lodge's approach.  Each weekend focuses on aspects of its wisdom and how to incorporate its simple yet profound lessons into daily life.

We are all in need of healing, whether it be physical, emotional, mental, or of the spirit.  We long for a safe haven where we can let go into ourselves and reflect in peace on where we have come from, who we are, and what next step to take.  A place where we are supported and not interfered with; guided, not directed.  At Jalbun Lodge the individual's process and uniqueness are respected and protected.

Each weekend the Lodge hosts an intimate gathering with ceremony, prayer, and counselling to assist the participants in their healing process.  Most of the events take place within the circle of the community teepee.  All aspects of the retreat are experiential, so each guest leaves with a deepened understanding of themselves and their place on the wheel of llife.

Every session is unique, responding to the particular needs and issues of those who participate. Both the newcomer and those familiar with Aboriginal traditions can be enriched and enlightened by their experiences at the Lodge.

LOCATION:

Jalbun Lodge is located at #890 Monck Road, Sebright, Ontario.  It is half an hour east of Orillia, or two hours
north of Toronto, Canada.

HOSTS:

Chippewa Native Ned Benson has travelled extensively throughout North America (Turtle Island) since 1979, embracing the many teachings of respected Elders, peers and children.  He has spent years counselling those who need his foresight, strength and leadership.  His generosity and sense of humour has endeared  him to young and old alike on his continuing journey along the "Red Road".

Over the years he has given many presentations and teachings at public and high schools.  These he has always made in his own relaxed and fun way, which delights the children, entertaining them with legends while imparting valuable life lessons.  Ned worked with Big Brothers of Sudbury and District as Activity co-ordinator, and there his connection with our future generations deepened and the importance of passing on the wisdom of the elders became clear.

He initiated the first communal drum in what is now Mjikanning.  Through the communal drum and his own hand drum he has found the medium to allow the voices of the Grandfathers to grow strong.

The Aboriginal Justice Training Program expanded his insight into many different modalities, and helped him develop expertise in dealing with addictions and suicide prevention.

His time spent with the Native Brotherhood in Federal Penal institutions lengthened his stride into the field he loves the most, which is connecting with those in need of guidance and humour, and helping them find their own place on the path.

Deepam (Susan Wadds) has been involved in the therapeutic process since 1981.   She came to the spiritual master, then Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh; later Osho, in 1983, and was given the name, Anurag Deepam:  Light of Love.  The following years were spent in extensive therapies, growth groups, and eventually trainings in the healing arts.  She became a certified Osho Rebalancer in 1988, and opened a practice in Toronto that summer.  Osho Rebalancing is a profound system of bodywork which incorporates several therapies, including deep-tissue massage, soft joint release, and breath work. She completed both the basic and advanced trainings in Osho Pulsation, a neo-Reichian system of emotional release through bio energetics, breath, sound and movement.  In 1990 she became a qualified Osho Tibetan Pulser.  Tibetan Pulsing is a therapy which utilises the electrical system of the body to apprehend blockages in the system which create patterns of behaviour and emotional suffering.  By using the pulsebeat these blockages can be effectively melted away and discharged.  Deepam offers individual treatments at the lodge, and from her office in Orillia.

OUR NAME:

In Ned's community the suffix -"bun" is added, as a term of respect, to the name of those who have passed into the spirit world.  Jean-Anne Lewis made the journey from this world to the next in the spring of 1997.  Her courage, humour, miraculous will and spirit, not to mention her profound dedication to healing in all its forms, touched all those who had the great good fortune of knowing her.  Jalbun Lodge is named in her honour.
